  4. After Talfourd's death in 1854, in what's remembered as an incredibly moving tribute, Dickens visited the town to perform a reading of 'A Christmas Carol'. A Reading reading. That's beautiful.

  5. Happy Birthday ! Dickens had several ties to , especially through his close friendship with Thomas Talfourd, a local author and politician. At one stage, Talfourd even invited Dickens to represent the town in Parliament (though he declined).

  9. 🎨 In sculpting Demeter's semi-abstract body, Ayrton was inspired by African and Ancient Egyptian pieces. Amazingly, he never received formal training. Instead he was self-taught, studying a wide range of historic sculptors, and taking personal advice from Henry Moore!

  19. ✨ Whilst exploring our collections, we found this exquisite example of Venetian glass! Venice flourished in the Middle Ages through Mediterranean trade, and its craftsmen were introduced to the masterful traditions and techniques of places like Syria and Egypt. ()
