Many readers have thin skins. A good majority of this country didn't even know who Monson was. The article was informative & touched many sides of his life/influence. There was nothing in it that wasn't true. The man was no saint and dying didn't make him one.

Supposedly a good majority of Americans don't know who he was, yet you know enough about the man to know what was/wasn't true and that he supposedly wasn't a saint? That's confusing, contradictory and presumptuous. It's not thin skinned, just asking for more respect.

This explanation honestly sounds like someone explaining basic journalism to a toddler

That's because it addressed concerns that don't exist. Nobody was asking for a glowing review of Monson's life. The barrage of critiques were related to the first few lines *in comparison* to the first few lines of other recently deceased figures (Heffner, Castro, et al.).

I'm a lifelong Mormon and I fully agree with the NYT approach to Pres. Monson's death. Since Mormons who wish desperately for change in key areas of doctrine can't directly influence our leaders in any way, I among many count on powerful voices like yours to say what we can't.

If women had a voice and a positions of decision making in the church change would come quickly, this is the problem in most religions and it's a shame that insecure male leaders fear women being equal to men that keeps it from happening.

Sex positivity? That’s a spin on female objectification I’ve never heard.

I’ve also never heard President Monson exclude women or say anything hateful about gays. He maintained the status quo...

You say you focused on more prominent issues that Pres. Monson encountered and dealt with publicly during his tenure, but didn't mention the churches reaction to the play, "The Book of Mormon." By far the most public thing under his tenure. But not controversial

Even the response here shows the clear bias that has penetrated the mainstream media. It's this bias that paved the way for Donald Trump to become president, and the
@nytimes just reaffirmed their lack of commitment to fair and balanced reporting in order to promote an agenda.Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo
