        Yes Dr. K, have read that this lichen (& similar others) can be eaten in a pinch (e.g. plane crash in wilderness) to survive on. No mention of taste. I imagined, as you characterized, similar to boot leather. Perhaps folks that have had the experience eating it could post 🙂
