NEW: DHS used a private intelligence firm to monitor more than 600 family separation protestshttps://interc.pt/2IRKmpk

The concerning issue here seems to have less to do with how this company obtained this info (that seems pretty straightforward), and more to do with an opaque industry perceiving (correctly) that its law enforcement clients are interested in having it https://theintercept.com/2019/04/29/family-separation-protests-surveillance/ …pic.twitter.com/buNRMlwKP2

Smart thread from a knowledgable source on why protest intel funneled to DHS by private companies is troubling — even if it's "unsolicited"https://twitter.com/RachelBLevinson/status/1122911723885879296 …

So they have the money and the time to catalog us as threats for exercising our rights to free speech and peaceful assembly but not the money or the time to keep track of which child belongs to which adult? Kirstjen Nielsen & co must never be accepted back into regular society.
-
Just show what pathological liars they are. I’ve gotta ask: Are these children being adopted?
-
The short answer is most likely yes but the cases are usually under seal so it’s difficult to track, especially since they’ve scattered the kids everywhere.https://www.nbcnews.com/news/amp/ncna918261 …

Give this some thought: Using facial-recognition software “your” government could easily build a database of participants in protests who could subsequently be targeted for future surveillance, harassment, or, eventually, identification as “subversives” This is Stasi-style stuff

It's inevitable. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Bin Laden won.

When asked if he was concerned that people might stop using Facebook, Twitter and other social networks as a result of U.S. intelligence activities, Flynn answered matter-of-factly: “Yes.”

> Are people organizing family-separation protests on FB anything like white supremacists spewing racial & religious hate on 4chan/8chan? No. > Are they both engaged in activity protected by 1A? Yes. > Do we want the government monitoring people engaged in 1A activities?

-
The hate groups yes. Not even hard to distinguish the difference when one of the two calls the number of people a group member kills their "score" and hopes they have a high one. Yes we should curtail terrorism and those that promote it.
-
Are you having a hard time judging whether antisemitism leads to murder? Let me help. It does. Problem solved.
-
Hate speech, any speech that threatens the safety of others, is not protected under 1A. Like shouting “FIRE!” In a crowded venue, when there is none.

We need another way to communicate. FB can’t be trusted.
-
Neither can Twitter.

I know.
