Are you a female who thought about doing engineering but decided against it? Why? What can the science community do better? #ScienceMarchpic.twitter.com/2Hzv2VqvRM

just a note: I don't love "female" as a noun to refer to women. Makes you sound like a Ferengi.

Many women (including me) prefer not to be called "females". Why it bothers me:https://makingnoiseandhearingthings.com/2015/04/08/men-vs-females-and-sexist-writing/ …

I've seen the term male used a lot in both a formal and informal context, I disagree strongly

I would be interested to see some examples of parallel usage of "male" and "female" as nouns to refer to humans.

So they ask for how they can help us & all you do is attack them for using "female" as if it's somehow an insult?

I'm a scientist who studies language. Words matter. Referring to women as females is literally dehumanizing.

No, it's not and you are literally insane if you think so. 'Female' isn't derogatory. Do you have a problem with 'male' too?

'Man' & 'woman' have the semantic property [+human], 'male' & 'female' do not. I don't like using 'male' to replace 'man' either.
