Nuance and multiple viewpoints is so important. This is one of the struggles with telling stories through images. The easiest photos we can make are often cliches or very one dimensional in their representation of our subjects. Great article!

Bravo, sir. Responsible coverage is so essential. Dehumanizing addiction porn is propaganda for any totalitarian regime that wishes to “eliminate” drugs & users. People forget, but the Nazis went after the addicts early on.

Thanks, Melissa. I’m still shocked but what gets published, and how it still doesn’t really do anything to help the problem.

Thank you!!! For raising this issue... photojournalists need to finally stop taking the easy way out of covering this story - it discounts everything they are often attempting to do. I mean don't journalists like to break new ground anyway?

Thanks Greg. I appreciate that. The big problem is that the easy way is still the most awarded in contests, grants, etc. It makes SO MANY photographers think that is the only work with editorial value. The whole system has to evolve from the top down
