Do you have an Old, Old, system? Why 32 bit? 64 bit has been rock solid for many, many years. (I suggest xubuntu in ether case)

Yes Sir, have a old Toshiba laptop having 32 bit architecture. It is currently running on windows 7 but really becomes so slow. It is going tougher for me to continue with windows. It lags everywhere. New to linux, have no idea :(

Any linux distro is lightweight by itsself. The window manager makes it heavy or not. Stick to the "classic" distros so that you can find a lot of support/online material and choose a lightweight window manager. Would recommend Xubuntu or Debian + Xfce. If lighter, try LXDE.

While I'm sure you'll get lots of replies on the list, I recommend basing your decision on the support community and their breadth of expertise. So something like Debian or Ubuntu with a Gnome or XFCE desktop would make a good starting-point. You can always try others later.

If specifically looking for 32 bit, would choose a distro that considers that a feature. A lot of the distros are dropping 32-bit. Many of us Ubuntu flavors have already done so. Unless they call it out specifically as a feature, you risk a distro dropping support at any time.

With no experience try
#Ubuntu. If it works but not comfy try another ubuntu-based distros. They are the easiest to install. When you dont feel pain using your computer switch to Arch to Gentoo for some more suffering.#learningcurve -
Ubuntu dropped 32bit support.
