    If you aren’t working with people you care about & respect, your job probably isn’t the one for you. I'll be there for anyone who really needs me; when a whole community operates this way, it is very powerful & rewarding. Personal contact at times of personal difficulty is a must.

    Great memo. My favourite quotes: 1) Can't tell the quality of a decision based on outcome; 2) Success doesn't go to picking winners but picking superior propositions; 3) Important to understand both the requisite skill you possess and quality of the competition.

    Feels like YC circa 2009 to me. It's intimate and feels like a family, yet also filled with talented and inspiring people at a similar stage of their life's journey. If you don't need demo day and want to keep more equity, it might even be a better choice than YC.

    “Why Now?” Most VCs will ask this. But this question misses great startups. Investors are asking if your oppty is: 🤖 New tech? 👽 Emerging user behavior? ⚖️ Regulatory change? Major macro shifts matter, but special founders are often overlooked as key vector of success. /1

    Almost everything I've learned about startups: * Aim to get to cash flow positive early * Don't overly optimize for private market valuations * Build a great team and culture * Make sure the business model *works* * Focus, focus, focus. Dilution of effort will crush you

    Retention is a tricky bc some are low frequency but high $. But for high freq, >75% monthly active after 6 months and >60% after a year is solid Acquisition: There are only a few very large acq channels -- SEO, viral growth, sales, sometimes paid. Rarely partnerships, PR, etc.
