Another great example of interactive learning by , this time about how the React hooks model compares to the component lifecycle model: Visual explanations work best for me when learning. And the attention to detail in this example is amazing

A quick and fun way to begin understanding the Cascade in CSS. I really like the in-context quiz to test your understanding as you progress through the interactive article. Great work, !

Web Inspector Tip: you can use local overrides to test modifications or debug HTML and JavaScript content loaded over the network instead of updating the file on your server.

Feelings about code are okay. Good, even! Listening to our emotional reaction when we see a piece of code is an important part of engineering intuition. Not okay: pretending these feelings are facts, in order to further pretend that programming is a purely rational process.

Really enjoying this tag in the Inspector tab that tells you which elements are scrolling. Very handy!

Just finished: The Master Switch by Tim Wu. A little bit too US-centric but utterly fascinating, a rare gem of non-fiction that is unputdownable. Understand the history of communications empires and the possible futures for the web reflect back at you.

design tool: 6+ hand placed, messy layers 😢 the web: we've got shorthand for that 😎 the hue matches the angle, isn't that cute!? gotta love multiple backgrounds with gradients, so coo codepen:

bright beautiful gradients with 6 colors colliding healthy across the image
    background:
    linear-gradient(0deg, hsla(0 100% 50% / 80%), hsla(0 100% 50% / 0) 75%),
    linear-gradient(60deg, hsla(60 100% 50% / 80%), hsla(60 100% 50% / 0) 75%),
    linear-gradient(120deg, hsla(120 100% 50% / 80%), hsla(120 100% 50% / 0) 75%),
    linear-gradient(180deg, hsla(180 100% 50% / 80%), hsla(180 100% 50% / 0) 75%),
    linear-gradient(240deg, hsla(240 100% 50% / 80%), hsla(240 100% 50% / 0

Important thing to remember with the new CSS Motion Path & independent transform properties: They all get applied in a specific order in addition to the original transform property: 1. translate 2. rotate 3. scale 4. offset-path (& friends) 5. transform

The `git checkout` command was confusingly named and too overloaded in functionality. “How do I switch to a branch?” - checkout “How do I restore a file to a previous version?” - checkout Enter Git 2.23: - `git switch <branch>` - `git restore <file>`

One of the hardest parts of product development is preventing “design by anecdote”. In many ways it’s even worse than design by committee. We all do it - this isn’t a criticism of other people - it’s just one of those things that can derail things quickly if not nudged back fast.

Tip: Avoid large pull requests. Find ways to break them up into smaller ones. Small PRs can be: * Easier to review. Intent is clearer and mistakes are more obvious * Less likely to conflict with others work * Compatible w/large new features - e.g behind a flag * Not a panacea :)
