    seems this is finally going 'mainstream.' this has been known for years tho. various reasons activists groups kept the lid on. but probably the narrative not as needed now? the truth is permissible when falsity is no longer necessary?

    Matthew Shepard's life story could have served as a tribute to all the queer folk struggling with methamphetamine; instead, his legacy furthers bigotry against the rural poor and adds yet another white boy to our list of saints.

    It is kind of a misrepresentation. The ruling doesn't say defamation of Muhammad is a crime. It says EU countries are allowed to pass laws making defamation of Muhammad a crime without running afoul of European human rights treaty law

    I can't believe was fired. I 100% disagree with the decision. I think what she said was wrong and I totally disagree with her politics but firing her over that comment is not remotely the right way to handle this. Talk about it on-air instead! More speech, not less.

    fwiw, when i say that this culture is not healthy i mean more for the company in the long-term. netflix pays very well. employees know what they're in for.

    What is interesting is the employees who left who support this culture or report they are happy. My hunch and hope is this is because of money only.

    This is astounding. An ACLU tweet argues that ending discrimination against Asians is bad because it will benefit whites, while the embedded audio recording argues the opposite.

    not to go full-tankie, but if human rights is our boyfriend the love can start home as to the shady stuff we get up to.

    Excellent piece by urging a tough, balanced approach toward both Saudi Arabia and Iran: i.e. "all oil-rich, terror-sponsoring, murderous, human-rights-ignoring, Islamist powerhouses." If we care only about human rights in Iran, we don't really care about human rights.
