I would go a lot further than that. A free society will outlive an authoritarian society. America, France, and UK show that. In the end, Hong Kong and Taiwan will be influencing the development of China's politics, not the other way around. A lot can happen in 28 years.

My country, Canada, should restrict travel. Chinese leaders proudly wear their badge of indifference to human rights. When those same officials are restricted from travelling and sending their family members abroad they will suddenly become more interested.
