At some schools, that might be 50th percentile. At Princeton, I was once asked why I was nominating a student for an award. After all, I had only given her an A, not an A+. (To which I replied, "Is that even a thing?") Not all schools in the US use this scale. Definitely not GT.

Ha! I read a paragraph in one of the apps that said that Princeton is fighting grade inflation, by asking instructors to limit As to a 1/3rd of the students. I thought that was a high fraction of As, but I suppose they are making drastic changes in their minds.

Some universities have a scale that goes up to 4.3. Mine did. Each letter grade corresponded with a whole number (for example, B was 3.0) and a plus or minus changed the GPA by 0.3 (so A+ is 4.3)

Math is also a large part of the basis of logics, a skill to protect one from manipulation.
