What makes an argument “unserious”? Is that synonymous with “bad faith”?

That could be one criteria I think. I think an argument has to be intellectually honest, and have reasonable awareness and knowledge. E.g an argument like "I don't understand why the n-word offends black people" is just not a serious and just deserves derision.

Especially when citing “science” from the 1800’s, at least half of which wasn’t... like 300 years after the scientific method was created but was still treated more like a polite suggestion and they would often skip 3-5 steps to say something racist.
