There’s a gap in the intel. That’s largely because the Chinese government has censored and suppressed all evidence related to the lab. Also, many senior officials disagree with Milley and believe the lab origin is much more likely than the seafood market story.https://twitter.com/DefenseBaron/status/1250135991966486529 …

      Josh Rogin added,

BREAKING: Gen. Milley responds to rumors that coronavirus came from a Chinese lab. "We've had a lot of intelligence take a hard look at that "..."it's inconclusive, although the weight of evidence leans towards natural. But, we don't know for certain."

Have we not learned by now - after WMD in Iraq - that it is impossible to prove a negative.

"senior officials" with the technical expertise to legitimately evaluate that evidence, or "senior officials" with strong incentives to prefer the lab story?

Yeah, I've seen no one who understands virology taking this possibility seriously. This version is a lot less crazy than the original bioweapons version. But these folks just have zero credibility and as Jon says this just sets it up as needing to prove a negative.

I've seen this movie before: Saddam and his WMD's. Only difference, it's not Colin Powell making the case this time around.

Here's an argument that it didn't come from the lab, from a China experthttps://twitter.com/ehundman/status/1246597925288816640 …

          Eric Hundman | 何諳銳 @ehundman
Recent attempts to blame China for SARS-CoV-2 have argued that it could have been released from a poorly regulated laboratory in Wuhan, as @IgnatiusPost does here. This sounds more reasonable than the bioweapon accusations, but there is strong evidence against both claims. 1/x https://twitter.com/IgnatiusPost/status/1245864149139066880 …

And yeah, the argument "Here's an idea with little support, prove me wrong," is a troll argument
