Yep, using just the line height coverage in scanline order with accumulation gives you exact horizontal shading. I approximate vertical shading by smearing based on the center of the line subdivision within each pixel.

I got the idea after reading a small paper on using ray tracing methods for collision detection on uniform grids and thought it might work for glyph outlines. Honestly though I made Fontdue because Font-rs felt like magic when I first saw it. Thank you!
