Really looking forward to having something to test, the idea of building the entire stack Rust-native is very exciting!

Is the Cairo/DirectWrite example actually rendering the same non-Latin characters?
-
Yes, the text is the same sequence of Unicode code-points. I could probably clarify that in the text.

Will there be a C API? :D

Super interesting question. Not in scope for the core of the project, but very easy to imagine as a community contribution. Depends on users, and I'm open to discussing that further.

For CJK, support for Ideographic Variation Sequences are also going to be critical. Unicode asks missing variation glyphs to case font fallback, although that's the case on Android, it's not on most browsers.

Yup! Honestly handling of VS is so messy and complicated for emoji, the CJK is refreshingly simple by comparison. We can add ideographic VS to the requirements formally though.

"In short, if you’re using rusttype, you should consider using skribo." I feel called out

I didn't mean to pick on you personally, but supporting Rust applications in Fuchsia has long been an interest. I'm glad to be doing it in Rust scope rather than as a Fuchsia-specific project, though.
