Nice to see that the range is getting wider!

You need to read the article. Indie and mobile are on a STEEPER curve alas. :/

How much do ongoing dev costs change the total for something like Destiny? Are they a fraction of the original or would more recent games be substantially higher?
-
For online games, these are launch title *only* data points. No ongoing costs, and no ongoing revenue either. Costs and revenue both go up enormously once you include that stuff. But it's very different math since you can aim for and HIT a specific profit margin by scaling Live.

This is a really amazing article, great job with it. I didn't understand all of it (just a player..) but I'd like to say this...my kids 2 "go to" games are minecraft and my 13 yo daughter LOVES Undertale. Pixels are shiny but don't make the game
-
It basically says more Minecrafts, less Undertales, unless something changes.

Pretty alarming, and I suspect that if you graphed the "value of fun" (if it were possible to do so) it would be a flat line.
Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

It’s scary to me that the Y axis scale is logarithmic. There’s some additional scariness in that many viewers won’t notice that, and thus won’t realize how bad the problem actually is.
