Seems like the authors and you are talking past each other.

They challenge the people who blame the algorithm for supposed rabbit holes by saying that, in its present form, it does not amplify extremist content in its recommendations. You are saying that's not the only way people consume extremist content on YouTube. Both can be true!

YouTube (and other social media, for that matter) would be just as useful and far less dangerous if it dropped its algorithms and relied on search and following particular channels/users.
