"cdylib" is short for "cry dylib"

What's extra weird is that this issue is only breaking things for me on Linux, on Windows and macOS the symbols seem to be exporting fine. I only even discovered the issue when I started setting up CI

It's interesting to see what kinds of cool (and often very mundane) crates are in my project's dependency graph

My pastime while watching my Rust projects compile is looking up the crates with interesting names and seeing what they do

Did you know? One of the largest categories of theft in the US is wage theft. Up to $50 billion are stolen from working people’s wages annually. Make sure you - especially when you work overtime.

Today, Communications Workers of America (CWA) launched an ambitious campaign to unionize the tech & game industry. The union has been quietly organizing tech workers for years. I spoke to lead organizer about why this is going public now.

The French General Strike effort is supported by streamers doing continuous Let's Plays, raising money for the strikers! It's the first time a Twitch live stream raises money to support a strike, how fantastic is that? Let's support! 🙌🙌🏾🙌🏼

"Our answer is the same for everyone working across the tech industry: Now is the time to organize, to join with your colleagues, and hold the bosses accountable!" Yes! So inspiring, solidarity from game workers!✊🏻✊🏾✊🏼

Instead, I'm going to see if I can put together some kind of ad hoc WASM plugin system for Unity by manually loading my WASM module and "linking" to it at runtime. It'll come with some performance overhead for sure, but probably worth it to avoid the other complications

After giving it some more thought, I don't think this is the direction I want to go in for now. Even if I can get all the necessary dependencies linked in, I'll still have to contend with potentially-incompatible llvm versions and other hidden toolchain nightmares

I'm wondering if it's possible to have rustc spit out the full llvm IR that it generates? It might not be, if such IR never actually exists in full. As I understand it, the built-in libraries like std are only distributed as rlibs containing pre-built native code

That might be an option, though I suspect I'll still run into problems with missing symbols coming from std and the other built-in libraries

Okay, found someone online confirming that you have to manually declare __rust_alloc and friends if you're not having rustc do the full compilation for you:

If I do an equivalent example in C++ and use `clang -emit-llvm` to generate the bitcode, I can see that it's including a bunch more stuff, but it's still all in a single bitcode file. Howe can I get something similar for Rust? 🤔

Erk, no good. I should have guessed it but __rust_alloc isn't defined in any of my dependencies. It's defined by std, and I'm not sure I'm going to be able to get the bitcode for that without compiling the entire standard library 😬

(maybe excluding libc, since that might be provided by Unity's build process already???)
