14/ I am aware that the Magsaysay award is given to social workers, and often to people from the Left. I do not see any issue with individuals, who are not in any leadership role, accepting such awards. I am no one to judge. But leaders would do well to stay away.

11/ In 1957, Magsaysay died in a plane crash. But so useful was his role for the U.S. that in 1965, Lyndon Johnson was actively looking for a "Vietnamese Magsaysay" to save Saigon. In fact, after Philippines, Lansdale was posted in Saigon where he tried the same, but in vain.
