Everyone's excitement about the palindrome day (20200202) reminds me of what mentioned on entropy and the meaning of life a while ago. There's something about ideas of symmetry, linear dynamical systems and finiteness that feels naturally good/right to the human brain.

Until 2017 I hadn’t really touched x86 in over a decade (I had spent the time exclusively on Arm). When Spectre and Meltdown hit, I read the SDM cover to cover and gave myself a crash course in its encodings etc.

TIL the longest instruction on x86 theoretically is 15bytes. Hardware vulnerabilities, x86 patent on the verge of expiry, servers & a lot of other interesting discussions with . Great podcast on CompArch. Kudos to the company for starting this

Chip architects at IBM, Intel, AMD, and Marvell weigh in on use of L4 cache memory in servers. L4 cache is by no means a new development, but it is also not commonplace in system architectures.

To measure throughput, use a cover() statement and then look at the throughput it generates. Remember, cover() returns a trace showing the first time the cover() statement argument can be made true.
