So defeatism (some might realism?) is the new denial, but an idealized prescription with no real-world road map is not?
Slightly unfair. Defeatism is not denial. We know there's a huge problem - what we don't know is whether any suggested mitigation will work.
For example, it would require enormous resources to replace fossil fuel infrastructure, thereby creating enormous pollution...
