Thanks! You did a great job illustrating the problem and I like your approach in dealing with problematic peers. Thought out and empathic. Yeah, I think the engagement of decent members of the in-group is vital in these struggles.

I'm not at botconf. There are dickheads and assholes everywhere in this society, and thus in the "infosec" community too. But I don't see the link with the common "white male privilege" narrative here. Happy to discuss this further with you sometime.

I kind of agree with both of you as discrimination works at various levels. An insecure white male will always discriminate & try to make feel others inferior starting from the most different from him up to his own family but the same happens between women & more suntanned people

Because apparently there is a general realisation that insecure white males are as bad as any other insecure human beings but they are a dominant category in most technical sectors in the western world.

So what? An accident of history resulting from various socioeconomic factors from decades past doesn’t justify bigotry against people today solely because they were born with a magically evil amount of melanin in their skin.
