Hopin layoffs present an interesting wrinkle: it had bet on becoming software of choice for hybrid/physical events, had a full division working for trade shows/wanted tie ups with venues & hotels. It seems that hasn’t panned out & it is refocusing on just virtual events.

Virtual isn’t a small category, my sense is Hopin will expand behind events into work/collaborative software as well, that is what much smaller is doing smartly by focusing on conversations amongst teams.

Last thought: any event tech company thinking they will get big revenues from driving tech/virtual part of physical events is likely to be disappointed, at least in short run. So many incumbents in venue/studio software business.
