That congressman was John LeBoutillier of the Whitney / Vanderbilt families, who took illegal campaign checks from his wealthy mommy. Not a vet himself, he often coopted stories of enlisted soldiers for political advantage - and defended Trump's comments on McCain.
I’m little ashamed to say that stuff like this surprises me because I’ve gotten to the point that my bar is so low for older white people, I just assume the worst of them.
