1/ I see there’s now a Thin Red Line flag to supposedly represent support for firefighters. I’ve also seen arguments that these flags don’t violate the flag code because, lacking the 13 red stripes and blue field, they don’t meet the code’s strict definition of an American Flag.

2/ The people who support that view point to the “subdued colors” flag patches active duty soldiers wear on combat fatigues. I don’t really buy the comparison. Those patches were created because it wouldn’t do to wear camo clothing with a bright red, white, & blue flag on it.

as a latin american comic scriptwriter let me just add that the acronym U.S. looking the same as the pronoun "us" is quite intimidating when trying to sell some of my work to american editors... I can only imagine what it would feel to even try to enter the land and blend in

That family in the picture lives up the street from me. And yes, they have the flag hanging off their porch. I do not walk on their side of the street and avoid eye contact. Mission accomplished, we’re divided.

This feels very up the alley of Nazi propaganda.

I'd be surprised if this didn't end up as a Klan billboard in some rural town

Weaponization of the flag is one of the first steps to despotism.
