The weird part is it ferns out overnight. One day it looks like normal asparagus stuck in the ground, then BOOM! Crazy ferns everywhere. Shocked the hell out of me.

Well, you aren't -entirely- wrong tho, brussel sprouts are a variant of cabbage that was bred for a lot of large side buds like this, so it is a mini cabbage, just from a different part of the plant
