there’s also their attempt at JSC bytecode caching committed a few months ago. Interested to see how well they can optimize it from a disk space and I/O efficiency perspective.

It's not impossible. "This API will be replaced" could mean a lot of things. Though it could also be nebulous shortcut for "this is just plain deprecated"
