Just for the record, the exhaustion of a senior nationally respected academic is not the same as that of precarious ECRs. When such academics break a strike, that indicates we are NOT, contrary to what they say, all in this together. Tone deaf and clueless to suggest otherwise.

Exactly--we'll be forced to have a "wellbeing champion," will be forced to attend useless sessions and programmes, will be bullied if our "wellbeing" statistics aren't good enough, and will be told it's our own fault if our being isn't well enough.

Inevitably, people clutching their pearls over a female MP’s top were supremely comfortable with a male MP sprawling all over the front bench like a sybarite. But, you know, ‘decorum’ & ‘respect’ or something.

Trinity College Cambridge has put out a statement merely noting that the Clark Lecture scheduled for the 13th is 'cancelled'. In fact, Arundhati Roy withdrew as an act of solidarity with & after being informed that the College was under local & national censure

The fact that U.K. academia has a sector-wide workload tool, TRAC, which physically cannot record workloads over 37 hours a week, is really a good symbol of U.K. academia in general.

I’m thrilled to see this book in print! It convenes a plethora of the most important voices in research. I’m also grateful to , @TamaraSoma, and for inviting me to write on abject capital and manufactured scarcity. (I’m Chapter 1!)

Is this genre called ‘Atomic Pastoral’? If not it should be, and I want to see lots more examples!

For the first time since leaving academia, I am consumed with envy: " I attended one of these workshops...About a hundred mostly sullen university employees".. The Disneyfication of a University | ACADEME BLOG

This is so depressing. It was just a matter of “positioning” and had it just aimed to be a commercial title rather than a literary one “no one would have objected to the racism”.

I am a Greek citizen who has lived in the UK since 1985. On Brexit day I want to say: I have no fondness for the EU – it destroyed my country. I'm not going to paint my face blue and gold. But I loathe much more the little England nationalism that mobilizes the Brexit narrative.

Dude doesn't seem to understand that its, me, the critic who received the death threats. I've been told I'll be shot. I've been told I ought to be dismembered. If I'm murdered for my criticism, be sure to leave my body in front of Flatiron's offices.

Yeah we’re out of the EU but it’s february now and the weather is milder so we can all pull out our pink faux fur coats and that totally balances things out.

Hey you do realise the irony of an ad for “Nomad Capitalist: the world’s #1 offshore conference” appearing in an article about our post-Brexit future, right? I know it’s all agorithm based and you have no control blah blah but come the fuck off it.

“throughout the novel, I describe Pottery Barn as being a barn where they sell pottery, which apparently is not the case. I maintain that if they didn’t want people thinking that’s what their store was, then they shouldn’t have called it that.” 🤣🤣🤣🤣
