I want to warn women our heart attacks feel different. Last Sunday I had a heart attack. I had a 95% block in my left anterior descending artery. I’m alive because I called 911. I never had chest pain. It wasn’t what you read in pamphlets. I had it off & on for weeks.

So the symptoms of an anxiety attack and a heart attack are exactly the same. Coolcoolcool.

as someone who gets panic attacks that seem exactly like heart attacks, the way you can tell the difference is chest pain that changes intensity when you press on it or move is a panic attack, and generally a pain that ramps up is more likely to be a heart attack

That's a comprehensive list. But you know what makes my ears perk up? When a woman tell me she is more "exhausted" than usual and "can't really describe it". Get the 12 lead EKG. Every. Damn. Time. @HeartSisters

My new psychiatrist is the 1st person I’ve told that I’m beyond terrified I’m going to have one, and it consumes me daily. She put me on lexapro(that was a given for a lot) and gave me an order for an EKG to rule things out. I love her for the latter. My anxiety/reflux scare me.

I went to my doctor and she checked my bloodwork and said my blood pressure was good so I won’t have a heart attack, but I told her I was still freaking out about it. She made me go to a therapist but I still feel this way. I think I need a better doctor tbh bc I am freaking out

I have anxiety disorder and I have been having pain in my left shoulder and arm for the past 6 months. My doctor says it's muscle tension because of increased stress and long commute. But still it freaks me out. I'm afraid of asking the doctor again.

I was just about the tweet about this. The list describes exactly what I experience when I have an anxiety attack. And it’s bloody painful. I take beta blockers to help with the physical symptoms but that sometimes gives me bad indigestion which makes the pain even more scary.

I understand all of the above. I just had a typical reflux reaction to something I stupidly ate without thinking(part of my daughter’s donut)-the pain was bad but it was quick and gone within a short while(and came on within minutes of eating it) but I still started obsessing.

My husband kept telling me last night when I told him of this conversation “your anxiety is your enemy”. And it is. I have daily anxiety due to a lot of issues and because I do have MS I also hyperfocus on every tiny pain and you name it. I’m still calling to have that EKG ASAP.

As an ER/Cardiac nurse, I've seen men present with chest pain & while they received Nitrogycerin, an aspirin and oxygen, women get "nerve" pills. Know your bodies ladies & demand proper treatment... it's not always "nerves" for us!!

Its worrisome as there is not a clear indication of what is just regular pain or what is a heart attack. I feel like all these symptoms are too general and applicable to so many other underlying issues.

I read something awhile ago that a LOT of tests/clinical trials aren’t performed on women because they “might get pregnant” like… you really can’t have them sign an agreement to use prevention/not have sex and you’re gonna let us suffer instead cause you can’t be bothered?!

Which, with endo in particular is absurd reasoning since it’s thought to be connected WITH INFERTILITY AKA THE INABILITY TO GET PREGNANT ?????
