As a NYT subscriber I’m used to an immense amount of cynicism in its 2020 coverage, but as the article notes, Beto took Spanish before going to college, some voters thank him for using it, and others find it “charming”. Maybe this isn’t about showing off but about communication?
The 2020 candidates keep showing voters how well they studied Spanish at, say, Columbia (Beto) or in Ecuador (Booker).
