I was Mike’s intern back in 2004. Even just deciphering his handwriting to type up his correspondence with authors was an education in editing, tact, and encouragement. He could make a rejection feel like a kindness—“I hope you’ll try us again.” What a giant.

This is beyond heartbreaking. I simply cannot comprehend any acceptable reason why a person flagging down the help of law enforcement at the scene of a car crash ends up dead at their hands. If our emergency response providers cannot keep us safe, our systems need to change.

Because DC is not a state, bills passed by the DC Council & approved by the Mayor are then sent to Congress for Congressional review before they can become law. No members of Congress can be sworn in until a speaker is selected, no DC Council bills can become law. #DCStatehoodNow
