When I wrote Koolaids, I was so terrified of the possible backlash. I assumed I'd never be allowed to go back to Lebanon, that I would be shot, imprisoned, all those wonderful things. For my first draft, I tried different names I could hide behind (& weird titles). 1/4

Luckily, I decided to publish it under my own name, not because of bravery. I couldn't bear the idea that anyone wouldn't know it's mine. I wanted all the kids who didn't want to be my friends back in kindergarten to regret their horrible decision, wanted my exes to be sorry. 2/4
