Whether you approve of this or not (I do), you must admit this is an amazing photo. One arm akimbo, bouquet facing down, and that attitude, in contrast to the devotional stand of the other two. Too good.

Why run under the banner of an allegedly morally decrepit nation? Why win as a representative of such a nation, only to express righteous disdain for it? For the sole pleasure of celebrating yourself as a great athlete? (Genuinely curious)

The famous raised fists in '68 didn't express disdain. Ali, James Baldwin, Ellison, etc. were harsh critics but I don't detect disdain in them (quite the opposite, in fact). It's the disdain in tandem with the willingness to be a rep for the nation that truly puzzles me here.

Being aware of how many people died defending our flag, I have never in my life disrespected it. I am not interested in messing with kharma that way.

Someone better tell those people crossing the border they’re making a big mistake.

Actually the only outdated, unwoke, sexist thing that occurred was the presentation of bouquets.
