Asparagus has been used as an aphrodisiac throughout history. In fact, the French word ‘asperge’ means also ‘penis’. This French postcard from 1909 reads 'For you, divine asparagus! How many follies have we not committed and how many more we shall commit, greedy ones as we are.'
