The first time I saw his work was at a Gary-curated show at SFMoMA in the early 90s. Blown away, of course. So maybe I'm not totally disagreeing when I say that I've stood before single Rymans and almost broke into tears. Maybe they each recall the whole for me.
He's my favorite contemporary painter and I know he's no longer contemporary. Gary always promised to introduce me but it never happened.

They make me very emotional, too. I'm not entirely sure why: I think maybe I'm just moved by the purity of the life's work.
