It always bothered me that parenting books emphasize putting young children to sleep in their own rooms. Beyond the dubious psychology of making infants/toddlers sleep alone, the great majority of people in the world don't have a room for every individual family member.

Update: a few people inform me that the going theory today allows for cosleeping (I haven't had a baby in the house for a while, lol). The primary point still holds: if you consume parenting books, be aware of the economic/cultural assumptions presented as universal.
