The title reminds me of S. Jayasankaran's story (then of The Far Eastern Economic Review) of trying to help V.S. Naipaul in Malaysia. Jaya took The Great Man to a market to buy pens. He proceeded to lecture a woman selling them off a blanket about the low quality of her nibs.
