But prior to that weren't we jesters and propagandists for a different set of stupid rich? Seems to overlook how, by, and for whom intellectuals are culturally manufactured.

Rather, there have always been clever people who toady to power...and evidently the narrow success of that has meant that intellectual capacity is wasted by that low standard.
