This is a terrible painting.. and the style is not a problem I love de kooning, luc tyman .. but lately she is showing her real drawing too much, others exposed her bad drawing less as she used fat grey paint lines.. you may not be able to see it

I'm not disagreeing. I feel ambivalent about her work. I've seen some good paintings and I've seen some that I disliked or that bored me. She's not Goya, de Kooning, Picasso, or Tuymans, but then few are.

Dumas is somebody whose work, as a rule of thumb, blows me away in person but not in print or on screens. Also, the "masters" you comparing her to all being men feels a bit iffy, esp. in light of that inane thing Baselitz said.

most artists are involved with some kind of relation with drawing face, there is naive, outsider , faux naive , there is horrible realist BP award portraits. Most hide from the tricky area of faces.. ill say more in a bit, got to take dog out

Martha's vineyard liberal elites hate to be defined as a group with a set of codes, same fro art. I was once publicly trashed by mathew Collins for asking if a show was faux naive or naive. Turns out .. dont ask. But why?

Faces are the big one, get it wrong in the right way and you are ok. most modern art is primitivism , so its stupid to say right and wrong, yet moveing from draftsmenship (banned term) to primitive as with Kokoschka is different to outsider darger. End result has a different Umam

Dumas shows herself up in this painting with eyes in a line , each eye needs to be drawn as an individual, this is difficult to describe as its a visual thing, but Dogs get it, thats why they have right eye facial shift movement, same as people
