The pictures are exquisite. But I’m surprised to see people depicted in them. Is the prohibition against depicting people in art a modern change?

I'm not sure who "set up" the prohibition, but in some cultures, it was never enforced or they never had any prohibition.
Different parts of the world have different outlooks.
