I know. In most Spanish speaking countries, it would probably be under G. In English speaking countries, though, he's known as Marquez.

I was a librarian in my previous life
foreign (=non-dutch) surnames went under the first part of it
so a Belgian author called Van der Wal went under V, a Dutchman went under W
I don't know why, or who invented the system.
