Every couple of years I wonder if I should get a blue checkmark. I know I'm me so what's the point? Someone tells me they no longer give them. Another tells me they do. Is it too much trouble?

It was never intended to be a mark of quality just that you are who you say you are. Plenty of garbage people have them and that’s good because then they can’t blame their garbage on someone else

They certainly still implement the system, though I have heard/read they don’t as well. (Assumed they perhaps have become either more discerning or more elusive about the process. is where it’s handled, but yes, at the end of the day does it really matter or is it ego?

You think it's ego for say, Obama's account to be verified so we know it's actually him? I don't.

Only if you want to be in the club when people tweet their scorn for “all the blue checks on here.”
(I got mine solely for security. There was a while when impersonator accounts were kind of a thing, even for unknowns? I dimly recall?)

I wouldn't mind. I worry because someone stole my art divas domain. But then who in their right mind would want to be me? Anyway, it looks like too much trouble.

They still do them but you used to be able to request one. Now they decide who to give the check mark to
