Canada is far stricter on immigration than people realize. I went to Nova Scotia once for a holiday and they hauled me straight to immigration. They let me go, but initaly wouldn't buy the fact I was vacationing in crappy weather.

More like, there is and was not an ongoing world war where major actors kept quiet about everything for strategic reasons, and moving troops around én masse. Also, the 1918-19 flu was a flu, not a coronavirus, we can’t assume the same patterns (but should be prepared for it).
The first wave in the US was a little more than 100 cases at Camp Pendleton. We sort-of shipped that out to Europe, so the first wave was minimal. We're in a bit of a different situation right now. I'm not saying it's not serious. This is just inaccurate in two ways.
