1. This is not relativism vs. absolutism: it's a debate between a roughly Kantian ethics and something more like utilitarianism, both of which are highly principled, but in support of different principles. 2. We let people die so we can drive over 20mph, too.

It's interesting that I've been thinking about Kant vs. Mill for a story I'm doing. It's an argument that has been going on for some time and I was a bit surprised that it wasn't mentioned in the piece.
