I would like to point out that Captain Bligh, terrible though he might have been, was competent, and more important, he was played by Charles Laughton, one of the greatest actors to grace our screen.

True, & the real Bligh & Fletcher Christian? Not so cut & dried as to who was hero & villain. If anything Bligh was more a hero in real life with getting his loyalists across open ocean w/almost no water or provisions to safety & only lost 1 member of the party.
