Went to the corner store a couple of days ago. Wore gloves and mask, etc. When I retuned home, I sprayed all the bills with my homemade solution of bleach & water. My much-smarter younger sister told me that was silly. She microwaves paper money for 20 secs. Never occurred to me

As long as they don't have any metallic security features...
(I don't believe US bills do)

I'd go slow on that. Heat kills virus, but a microwave only generates heat in certain types of molecules - notably water. It's not at all clear that virus on dry currency will be affected at all. Start doing that, at least wet the currency first.

I like to put my bills in a crockpot with a yellow onion, some garlic, chicken broth, and spices. Cook it on low for 8 hours.

American bills go best with turmeric, cumin, and a touch of cardamom.

Ever notice how when you microwave a frozen burrito some of it comes out blazingly hot and some of it is still ice? Consider that some bits of what you nuke aren't getting hot at all...
