Tomorrow afternoon, I'll be leading a book group in San Quentin. I've been inside a few times (I've even played a soccer game in the yard), and I've attended groups, but I've never lead a book group inside. The prisoners and I will be interviewing Daniel Handler!

You can. We bring in a number of people from the outside. We just need a month to clear you. Of course, you'll have to read the book! Next time.

Love it! I taught creative writing in prisons here in New Jersey. I learned more than the guys did, I'm sure. #literatureIsMagic

I've considered teaching, but there are quite a few teachers. I thought doing book groups where I bring in writers would be better. It's through the Prison University Project, so they do get university credit!

Do ask DH about Melville's Confidence Man if the opportunity arises, he wrote a great intro to a reissue of the Franklin edition...

It was a wonderful event. It always is. The prisoners are always so engaged with the book. I would say that the most engaged group of readers/students I work with are either prisoners or refugees.
I love !
