One of my fondest memories: In 2014, I spent the night by myself in this bed on the salt pans of the Kalahari under a star-filled sky, woke up to this.

So I got into the bed, thinking I was about to have a transcendental experience. I would contemplate the vastness of a dark sky filled with histrionic stars.
Nope. I was out, asleep, in less than 30 secs.
I should have done that when I was in my 20s, not 50s!

Wow. Just thinking about doing this gives me goosebumps! Not sure I could actually sleep, but I ❤️ the idea!

What joy! Spending night under dark skies, away from light pollution, shouldn't be such a rare privilege. Horrific how we've robbed ourselves of the night skies, our deepest connection to the universe. Reminds me of my nights on High Plains in western US. BIG SKY COUNTRY ROCKS!

Many years ago I made a driving trip out west. Somewhere in the Texas panhandle, maybe 2:00am, and in the middle of nowhere, I happened to look up...mind blown. I had never truly seen the night sky before. Breathtaking.

I’m guessing the salt pans are so devoid of life that there was zero chance some large pussycat would come along and start snacking?

Not even an insect. Nothing.

I had it set up for me by a friend. It’s in Botswana, an amazing place to visit. I think I was staying at a place called Jacks Camp or something like that.
