Hey poets. I copied a poem years ago but now can't remember who wrote it. Google hasn't been able to help. The poem is called "Non-Sequitur" First line is "These days, what comes out of your mouth / often surprises . . ." Please help. Who wrote this?

Maybe from our time that intersected at MacDowell? I love finding fragments.

I'm almost positive it's from that time. Didn't you try to turn me on to poetry?

Definitely! (That poem ended up in Gettysburg Review.)

Which poem? This one? Who wrote it?

It’s mine.

Yay! I'll post it tomorrow!
And thank you so much. 20-whatever years ago, I had no clue about much and you were patient enough to teach me!

I’m pretty sure I learned more from you—about writing and about people.

Maybe you can help again. You showed me Merrill's masterful "Charles on Fire" but you also had me read another poem about a man whose elderly father gets mugged. It's very angry, and ends with the poet wishing to get the mugger into a room to beat him up. Do you recognize it?

I believe that's a Charles Harper Webb poem called "Prayer for the Man Who Mugged My Father, 72."
